About us
We are an environmental conservation and community development organisation working in Tanzania. We believe healthy ecosystems and thriving communities depend on each other.
Our mission
To promote environmental conservation, protect natural resources, support sustainable community development and encourage responsible environmental practices for present and future generations.
Our vision
Thriving, resilient communities living in balance with healthy forests, soils, water and wildlife.
Who we are
HOPE FOR A BETTER TOMORROW brings together community members, local leaders and supporters who share one aim: to protect the natural resources that sustain life and livelihoods, and to leave the land healthier for the generations who follow.
We focus on practical, community-led work — restoring degraded land, protecting water sources, encouraging sustainable farming and building environmental awareness.
Our values
- Community first. Lasting conservation is led by the people who live closest to the land.
- Honesty and transparency. We report what we can verify and say clearly what we cannot.
- Long-term care. Planting a tree is the start of the work, not the end of it.
- Respect for knowledge. We combine local and traditional knowledge with sound environmental practice.
- Accountability. We are answerable to the communities we serve and to the people who support us.
History and background
This section is for the organisation's own, verified account of how it started and what it has done so far. Staff can edit it in the administration area under Pages → About us.
The challenges we address
Across East Africa, forests and woodlands are under pressure from land clearing, charcoal production and unsustainable harvesting. Soil erosion reduces harvests, catchments that supply drinking water are degraded, and changing rainfall patterns make farming less predictable. These pressures fall hardest on rural households whose food, income and water depend directly on healthy land.
Our approach
- Listen first. We plan with communities, not for them.
- Start practical. Seedlings, demonstration plots, training and simple tools that people can use straight away.
- Follow up. We return to monitor survival, results and lessons learned.
- Report honestly. Outcomes are published only when they are supported by records.
