Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it and how we look after it.
Draft for review
This text is a draft. It must be reviewed against applicable Tanzanian law and any relevant international data-protection obligations and approved by the organisation. It has not been independently certified.
Information we collect
- Enquiries: your name, email address, optional telephone number and organisation, and your message.
- Donations: your name, email address, optional telephone number, the amount, currency and any designation, an optional message and, for bank transfers, the transfer reference and any proof of payment you choose to upload.
- Staff accounts: usernames, email addresses and activity records for people who manage the website.
We do not collect or store card numbers or card security codes. Online card or mobile-money payments, when available, are handled by the payment provider on their own secure pages.
Why we collect it
We use your information to reply to your enquiry, process and record your donation, send you a confirmation or receipt, meet our accounting and legal obligations, and protect the website against misuse.
Donation records
Donation records are kept as financial records. Access is limited to authorised finance staff, and every manual status change is logged. If you give anonymously we will not name you publicly, but we still keep your details privately for our records.
Contact enquiries
Enquiries are stored securely and seen only by staff responsible for replying. Internal notes are never published.
Third-party payment providers
When an online payment provider is enabled, your payment is processed by that provider under its own privacy policy. We receive confirmation of the payment and a transaction reference, not your card details.
Data retention
To be confirmed by the organisation. Suggested starting point: enquiries are deleted 24 months after they are resolved; donation records are kept for the period required by Tanzanian accounting and tax law.
Your rights
You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it. Contact us using the details below.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) in production, restrict access by role, and record important administrative actions. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell affected people if a breach occurs where required by law.
